It's been awhile since I last updated. I just finished working on my first professional video game and I'm busy starting my second. I spent the entire month of June devoted to making sure that Madden NFL 07 has the least amount of bugs possible and I'm very proud of how great this game looks. Everybody on the team worked long hours to make sure this project ships on time. It was rough because my lovely fiancé hardly saw me but her support helped me through. Go out and pick up a copy when it comes out next month!

I just received a copy of the new Fall 2006 Game Developer Game Career Guide. Inside there is an article on three of this years IGF Student Showcase games, including Colormental, and an interview with me. Thanks to Managing Editor Jill Duffy for the article!

Orlando Sentinel put up a video interview with Liam Hislop (Game Design Final Project Director). Watch it and you will see Liam playing Colormental and showing off some other really cool Full Sail final project games. The teams behind these games work very hard and want to see their games played. So, go here and check them out and support those students because they are the future of the gaming industry.

If you go to Full Sail and are in Final Project, go ahead and shoot me an email with your game website link. I'll probably put it up in my links page. It's a shame Full Sail doesn't already have a website setup where the public can play our games.

Also, I'm getting married!

John Boyer (Graphics Programmer on Colormental) recently came up with a new way to load our textures and it makes them look a lot less grainy. The final result is fantastic and is a lot more like our original vision for Colormental. So with this new addition we bring you v1.5. You can find it in the projects page.

Also, included in v1.5 is the source code for Colormental. Our team used Visual Studio .NET 2003 but later versions of Visual Studio should be compatible.

A Q&A about our game Colormental is now up on Gamasutra.com and in it we talk about the origins of the game, the team behind the project, and the school behind our education. So check it out. I also won't be making it to the Game Developers Conference this year due to financial reasons. I was involved in an auto accident two nights ago, and my car is pretty much totaled. Good news is, that it wasn't my fault at all and I'm okay. So I'll have to buy a car soon, and that's my first priority.

If anybody would like to be awesome and take lots of pictures, at the GDC, for me, I'd love to see them. The rest of the team will be there though.

I have been invited by the fine folks at Electronic Arts to become a member of their team at the Tiburon studio in Orlando. I'm very excited about this new endeavor and I cannot wait to contribute to their extended family of future products.

Colormental v1.4 is now available on the projects page. Changes include:

- Added cheats section to README file.
- Hit TAB in game to see a list of the controls.
- Fixed some minor graphical issues.

There were so many visits to this site and downloads of Colormental this month that yesterday at around midnight the site reached it's max bandwidth. Thanks to all of you for your continued interest!

Last month, this website received over 50,000 hits from over 1000 unique visitors and about 270 downloads of Colormental. I want to thank all of you for your continued interest and we'll see you at the GDC!

Colormental has been selected into the 2006 Independent Games Festival. It was chosen to be one of 10 games to be Student Finalists. This is a dream come true for all of us that worked on Colormental. From day one, we wanted to enter Colormental into the IGF, and to receive this kind of recognition is simply amazing. Thanks to all that played the game and supported our team. You can see an article about all the Finalists at Gamasutra. Here is the main IGF website.

I've added an more updated version of Colormental to the projects page. I'm still working on adding little tweaks to the game to make it better. I fixed the bug of having to install msxml.msi if you haven't installed it before

on your machine. So now Colormental should be playable right after installing the game. I really like the idea of adding more to the tutorial aspect of the game so that the player doesn't have to read the readme file in order to learn the controls quickly. As always, play it and let me know what you think! Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

We got our game ready enough to submit to the IGF Student Showcase competition this week. Regretfully, we didn't get to change much for the IGF submission due to lack of time and everyone getting situated around the country. Maybe sometime in the future we can add those cool features that we wanted in so badly. Either way, play the game and let us know what you think!

I was awarded the Advanced Achievement Award from Full Sail and was given the opportunity to speak amongst my peers at my graduation yesterday. It was quite an honor. To receive this Award you have to be nominated by the staff at Full Sail and then voted in by the students. I also learned that I received the Course Directors Award for Excellence in Advanced Tools Programming. I got to say, it was a good day.

The final project presentation went great! The first question we got was "Where can I find this game?" which is usually a good sign!

I've gotten some footage of the presentation and you can watch it here. Also, don't forget to play the game in the Projects page.

Finally, the day that my team and I have been waiting 5 short months for! Colormental Final Build is up in the Projects page! Play it and let me know what you all think!

This doesn't mean the end for Colormental. This is just our school turn in. We are still going to be working 5 days a week for the next month to add more stuff to get the game ready for the IGF Student Showcase. So on November 15th, come back and play the even better version of our game. Thanks to everyone for their support.

The game presentation will be held, on Wednesday, October 12th at 1:30 PM, in the Full Sail Auditorium. Make sure you show up and stay for all the games showcased that day. They are all very good.

Also, a fully featured Colormental flash website will be going live soon. So check back here for updates.

Added an updated version of my particle engine demo! You can download it in the Projects page. Now you can see cool effects like my Score Particle Emitter, and the Air Emitter. Read the readme for controls!

I recently have been invited to join the great folks at Wildfire Games. They are hard at work on a historically based Real Time Strategy game called "0 A.D." When it's ready it'll be completely freeware so make sure you check it out! Help support us indie developers!

I have added the Beta version of Colormental. You can download it in the Projects page. It won't be long before the game is in a finished state. We now have access to a FlexArcade machine so we're going to be testing the game on it soon. Please send me an email regarding your thoughts and suggestions towards the game. We are very excited about this project and we hope you enjoy playing it.

Working hard to get Beta version of Colormental complete. Next week it'll be up on the site. It's looking very impressive. You'll be able to hit objects with the air effect and move it around the game level. Keep checking back.
